Waiting is hard. It can be stressful, frustrating, irritating. We think we know what should happen, and when. But God has other ideas. When He keeps us waiting for something, whether that be a new phase of life, something we’ve been asking for, a fulfilment of what He has promised or a prophecy to come into fruition, He’s doing that for our own good. After all, God tells us that ‘my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways’ (Isaiah 55:8 NIV). He knows what’s best for us, and sometimes that includes waiting. It can involve surrendering our control, surrendering the way and the time that we think things should happen in, and letting Him unfold what’s to come. We’re told to ‘wait patiently and confidently,’ expectant that God will bring things about in the right time. This is one of the hardest things we’ve got to get our heads around. We want to be in control and it’s hard to hand that control over to a God we can’t see. Doubt begins to creep in and often we want to take that control back almost as soon as we’ve surrendered it over. But the Bible tells us to ‘walk by faith, not by sight’ (2 Corinthians 5:7 ESV). Once we’ve handed control over, we need to make sure we’re waiting with that patience we’re called to have. Not getting stressed, trying to sort everything or getting angry and frustrated with a lack of things happening. God is working, He has a good plan for us and His timing is always perfect.

What Now?
Take 10 minutes to just sit and be with God. Use Psalm 42:10 as inspiration. Hand over control to Him.
