Prayer and praise are at the heart of our walk with God, not just as occasional acts, but as daily rhythms that shape our hearts and redirect our focus.
In Word For Today, we are reminded that praise isn’t just something we do when life feels easy, it’s something God calls us to do every day.
“Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful.” Psalm 33:1 NKJV
The Psalms are filled with calls to worship. The writer of Psalm 34 says:
“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34:1-3 NKJV
And in Psalm 113, we read:
“Praise ye the Lord. … From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised.” Psalm 113:1-3 (KJV)
These verses remind us that praise isn’t just for Sunday mornings. It’s a lifelong posture, one that extends into every moment of our day. As one of our past Word for Today readings puts it,
when believers are overwhelmed, “the last thing you feel like doing is praising God. But it’s the first thing you should do, because praise gets your attention off yourself and onto God’s miraculous power.”
Prayer and praise go hand in hand. Prayer opens our hearts to God giving us space to bring our joys, our hurts and our hopes before Him.
Praise, then, lifts our eyes to who God is and what He has already done. When Paul and Silas were in prison, even in hardship, their response was to praise God and in doing so they experienced freedom: chains broken and doors opened.
Whether it’s through honest conversation with God in prayer or lifting our voices in praise, the bible encourages us to make both a part of our everyday life.
When praise fills our mouths and prayer fills our hearts, we open ourselves to God’s presence and find strength that surpasses our circumstance.
This March the 12th is our Prayer and Praise day live on UCB Ireland Radio.
