The joys of heaven (2)

27 March 2023 ‘The city was 1,500 miles wide, and 1,500 miles high’ Revelation 21:16 NCV

Do you ever wonder if there’ll be room for you in heaven? There’s no need to worry, because God has made sure there’s enough space: ‘The city was built in a square, and its length was equal to its width. The angel measured the city with the rod. The city was 1,500 miles long, 1,500 miles wide, and 1,500 miles high’ (v.16 NCV). That’s an area of over two million square miles – making the new Jerusalem bigger than most countries in the world. In fact, it’s almost twenty-four times larger than the United Kingdom, and over half the size of the entire continent of Europe! A city that big would be anything but crowded and uncomfortable. And here is something even more incredible: it’s fifteen hundred miles high! There will be no space limitations. And that confirms what Jesus said about heaven: ‘In my Father’s house are many mansions…I go to prepare a place for you’ (John 14:2 KJV). Do you wonder what heaven will look like? The same God who created the earth also designed heaven, and Paul said that heaven will be ‘far better’ (Philippians 1:23 NKJV). So try thinking of the most beautiful place you have ever visited and multiply that scene by infinity. That’s how beautiful heaven is. John the Revelator described it in these words: ‘The City shimmered like a precious gem, light-filled, pulsing light’ (Revelation 21:12 MSG). There is such beauty in our world – think of a beautiful mountain scene, a countryside walk, stars filling the night sky, as just a few examples – but heaven will be even better. Jesus died so that we could go to heaven. But we don’t go by chance; we go by choice. So, have you placed your trust in Christ to be your Saviour? If so, see you there!
