Mindset (3)

5 December 2022 ‘For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.’ Proverbs 23:7 NKJV

We all have something that we regularly struggle with, something that, despite our efforts to remove it from our life, seems to keep recurring. It might be something like addiction, anger, anxiety, lust, or fear. After battling it for so long, we might try to justify ourselves by saying, ‘It’s just the way I’m made. I can’t do anything about it.’ But yes, we can! With God’s grace and help, we can change. The Bible says, ‘If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new’ (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV). Note the words ‘in Christ’. By ourselves, we don’t have the power to make big, lasting changes. But ‘in Christ’ we receive the power we need to go in a new direction. Just like a computer can be reprogrammed, our minds can too. ‘Be transformed by the renewing of your mind’ (Romans 12:2 NKJV). And we can renew our minds by saturating them in Scripture! Just like soaking a dish in soapy water removes grease and stains, soaking our minds in God’s Word cleanses and corrects our thinking. There’s an old saying that goes: ‘Watch your thoughts for they become your words. Watch your words for they become your deeds. Watch your deeds because they become your habits. Watch your habits because they become your character. Watch your character because it becomes your destiny.’ By programming our minds with God’s Word, we can tear down old thought patterns and destroy old habits, and rebuild something wonderful that glorifies Him in their place!
